but why not? with lines like that, isn't it obvious that there's some meaty material there? if you haven't already, you should read the lyrics to 'prison sex.' those are some of the most brillant lines i've ever heard. and in the context of the music they're even better.
Honestly, it's because some of the lyrics creep me out--like, disturbing, want to go away and crawl into a hole-like. And then I associate the voice with that skin-crawling feeling, so I never want to listen to any of it.
I fully realize some of the lyrics are brilliant. But I can't stomach the voice any more.
okay, then. do me the favor of downloading and listening to some songs by a perfect circle. notably 'magdalena', 'orestes', and most especially '3 libras'. please tell me what you think.
it's a shame. maynard not only writes good lyrics, but he has one of the most dynamic voices i've ever heard.
i'm not sure if his voice or the overall tone of tool's music disturbs me or not. i guess it wouldn't matter, i tend to expose myself on purpose to things that disturb me.
maynard is one of the most incredible lyricists ever. i agree with the first comment, if you liked this you should give the rest of their catalog a listen - as well as 'a perfect circle' too.
